Hair Loss Truths

It is definitely true for most of us that we will definitely experience the onset of hair loss at some point in our lives if we live long enough. Although technically called androgenetic alopecia, there are more than just hereditary factors here at work. Genetics can definitely pinpoint whether you will lose most of your hair or what age it will start to fall out.

So What Else Can Cause Or Exacerbate Hair Loss

If you have a malfunctioning thyroid gland, or if you suffer from anaemia this can manifest itself in the form of alopecia. It can be one of the symptoms. We all know that stress is a killer, but it can also contribute or accelerate the rate at which you lose your hair.

There is also a medical condition known as alopecia areata which cause the hair to fall out in clumps and patches. This can be a very distressing condition. It can severally impact your confidence. As this condition can also occur in women you can imagine the stress and shock it can cause, which can in turn lead to more hair falling out. The simple way to find out if you have any of these conditions is to have blood tests analyzed by your doctor.

If your hair does start to fall out you should not automatically associated this with having a systemic disease, it can be also the result of a poor diet, hormonal changes like the onset of the menopause, pregnancy, a vitamin and mineral deficiency, puberty, or even a change in your diet. Sometimes you can even go through a period of hair shedding which will revert to normal. Especially in the case of pregnancy or the menopause.

Age Related Hair Loss In Men

As a man ages his testosterone levels start to decline. This can be another reason why men start to lose their hair as the years go by. Anabolic steroids also can trigger hair loss as they artificially radically alter the bodies levels of testosterone, and trigger hormonal changes elsewhere in the body. When a man takes artificial testosterone his own natural testosterone production shuts down. This can have the effect of triggering hair loss.

No man really wants to go bald, but it is a common thing. Women aren’t expected to go bald so the stigma and the psychological damage can be tremendous. There have been many prescribed medicines over the years to treat these conditions with the most notable of them using the clinically proven compound named Minoxidil.

It was discovered by complete accident as a side effect that came about when patients were given this drug to treat an enlarged prostate. Side effects are not often good, but in this case it turned out to be. So clinical trials were started with alopecia patients.

A specific drug named finasteride used minoxidil and a number of other ingredients. Whilst some patients experienced hair re-growth, a small proportion of them suffered severe lifetime sexual disorders that could not be rectified. The consequences were many men were unable to produce fertile sperm, had a complete loss of sex drive and became impotent.

The problem was not minoxidil but something else in the mixed compound. These days it is safer to use minoxidil in a spray like Provillus. There is no associated sexual disorders with taking this product. One of the best things to do if you experience sudden hair loss is to get blood tested immediately at your doctors surgery. This can pinpoint any underlying conditions and also analyze your blood count which will show if you have any infections or if you are low in iron or any other deficiencies.
